This was taken during an event in Malta - Medieval Mdina. There was a re-enactment taking place of a medieval styled battle. This shot was taken moments after the fight, when one of the swordsmen placed the sword over his shoulder in order to celebrate his victory. The photo was taken on an older camera in 2015 at f6.3, 1/800 sec, 250mm I believe that the bokeh brings the subject into sharper focus. Had the subject been looking at me, the photo would have been better, but since it was a candid shot, it couldn't have been helped. Also, the framing might be a little bit off - capturing the full length of the sword plus both arms might have helped the shot. Having said that, I'm happy with the way it turned out since he appears to be staring off into the distance at the victorious result of his work.
Welcome to the course! I wish you all the best for some great photos and great inspiration! I’d also like to say, photography is the easiest way to realise your creative potential. If during the course you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Let’s get onto theassignment!
Оценка работы
This work falls within the genre of a portrait. The light comes from the side, but it is soft and diffuse. This lighting has allowed you to add fluid tonal transitions and avoid crude shadows. The white balance is under control and the exposure is about right, the colours are natural. Because you have shot this with a wide aperture (6.3), and used a focal length of 250mm, you have managed very well to pick out the main protagonist in the photo in sharply focus, while the background is left unfocussed, you have a beautiful, expressive bokeh. The gaze of the main protagonist is directed off to the side, but this is totally acceptable as you have left plenty of visual space in the direction of that gaze.
Замечания и рекомендации
It's better to show the arm with the cubital joint - so that there wouldn't appear an effect of a "foreign" arm.
